Be sure to follow the cables from your fans to your motherboard and disconnect them. Next, you will want to remove any screws and adhesive that might be securing your fans to the computer case. Once the fans have been removed, you can follow the same process to place new fans into the case. In the event that you have RGB fans, you will want to make sure that the software controlling this is functioning properly. In some cases, it is necessary to install new software to control the lighting of your fans. This is especially true if you did not get the same type of fans that you previously had in your case. Custom PC Repairs: Cooling Unit Repairs
Cooling units are miniature air conditions for your CPU. They keep your computer cool and prevent overheating. When a cooling unit malfunctions, it’s possible to experience hot computer temperatures and random computer shutdowns. When a computer gets too hot, it will normally shut down to protect the hardware in the computer. If a computer is allowed to get too hot, it can damage components such as CPU and motherboard. Like fans, cooling units are also available in a variety of sizes. Be sure to do your research before embarking on this type of custom PC repairs, because it can easily go sideways. You will want to know ahead of time what size cooling unit your computer needs. Replacing a cooling unit can be very challenging, be sure to dedicate a big chunk of time to perform this task. First, you will want to remove the old cooling unit. I like to remove the CPU piece first and then work my way to the fan system. Remove the cooling unit from the CPU by unscrewing any screws that are holding it down. Make sure that you gently remove this piece, so that you don’t damage the CPU in the process. Next, you will need to follow the tubes to remove screws that are holding down the fans. If you are able to successfully remove the cooling unit, then putting in the new unit should be just as easy. Custom-built computers use the same hard drives as any other computer. Sure, there are some hard drives that are specifically designed for gaming. These hard drives are the same as hard drives in other computers. If you have ever installed a hard drive onto a normal computer, then this process is exactly the same. To start, remove the old hard drive from the computer. Do not attempt to install a new hard drive with your old hard drive still connected. The reason for this will become apparent shortly. In fact, you should be sure to remove all the screws and any tape or Velcro that might be securing it down. Additionally, you want to install the new hard drive in the exact place that the old hard drive was located. Once you have put in all the screws, plug in your media or installation drive to a USB on your computer. If all goes well, you can start your computer and the installation media will automatically begin installing your version of Windows. Unfortunately, if it did not go well, you may need to perform some additional steps to install your operating system. Once you have installed your operating system, you can connect your old drive and begin transferring data to your new hard drive. If you leave the original drive connected, it’s possible that it will create an issue during installation of your OS.

One of the most difficult things to fix on a custom computer is a driver issue. Typically, there is no list of parts in your computer or any indication of what drivers you will need if there should ever be a problem with drivers. As a matter of fact, most times you will need to take your computer to a computer technician for this type of custom PC repairs. If, however, you decide to do this on your own, here are some pointers. First, identify the device that needs the driver repaired. For example, if your GPU needs the latest driver then you will want to remove the GPU and make note of the brand and model. Additionally, you can also get this information from the BIOS or settings in your operating system. Once you have identified the brand and model, then you will want to find their website. This can be challenging because sometimes the brand is not in the URL. I like to use Google to find the website. Simply type the brand into google search and you should get a list of suggestions. Be sure that you don’t click on any ads because this is probably not what you’re looking for. Once you are able to download the newest driver from the website, be careful during installation. During installation be sure to read all the user agreements, these can be important at a later time. Finally, once your driver is installed you can verify it in the device manager.

When a computer case malfunctions, it’s usually as simple as switching the computer components to a new case. However, with custom built computers, this is not always the case. Custom PC repairs for cases can be just as complicated as building the computer again. In fact, custom-built computer cases typically have twice the cables and hardware as a regular computer. Basically, when you transfer your custom computer to a new case, you are basically building your computer again. In most cases, this is not an issue, however sometimes special modifications are made to cases that make the process challenging. For example, computer cases where mounts or external components were modified. In these cases, it can be challenging to reproduce the modification as it was originally.
