Hi, I’m the owner of DML Computer Repair and I’d like to share some of my experiences in owning one of the most popular little computer repair shops in Colorado Springs.
My Computer Repair Shop on Wahsatch
DML Computer Repair is located on Wahsatch in downtown Colorado Springs. In fact, it’s been open for almost 15 years and is extremely popular with locals. I like to think that DML has become a household brand in the Springs, since we service most of the city. People recognize my car all the time with my “PC GIRL” license plate and wave at me. Furthermore, I absolutely love owning a computer repair shop in Colorado Springs, I feel like it helps me become a part of this beautiful community. People come to me with problems everyday that need to be solved immediately and I’m all too happy to solve them. It makes me feel really good to make somebody’s day better, even if just in a small way.
The Employees at My Computer Repair Shop
I can’t say enough good things about my employees at DML Computer Repair. Unfortunately, there’s no way to name all of them in this itty-bitty paragraph, but I’d like to name at least one. I’d like to name David Baker, Master Technician, for his wonderful efforts in keeping the shop going all these years. David has been my Master Technician since I opened the shop in 2012 and he’s been fantastic. In fact, even during the hard times, David has worked tirelessly to keep the company afloat. Additionally, David is one of our most beloved computer technicians, most of our good Google reviews mention David by name. There isn’t a single client who doesn’t absolutely love David.
My Computer Repair Shop’s Clients
At DML Computer Repair we get clients from all walks of life. Furthermore, each client is treated with the exact same respect and friendliness. Even when a client comes in, kicking and screaming because they are having a bad day, employees are specially trained for this. Each employee is trained to remain completely calm and to realize that this person is still just a human being who is having a bad day. In fact, empathizing with client’s problems is what DML Computer Repair employees do best. Unfortunately, if a client becomes violent or begins using vulgar words, we draw the line there. However, we do have a high tolerance for most people who are upset about their broken computers.
My Computer Repair Shop’s Vendors
Most computer repair shops use the exact same vendors over and over again. Sometimes this results in expensive parts or delayed parts for shipping. At DML Computer Repair we use a variety of vendors, constantly checking for new vendors that exist. This way our vendor list stays fresh, and we are offering the best possible prices and shipping options. In fact, we pride ourselves in giving the very services, pricing, shipping options, and customer service in the Colorado Springs area. My Computer Repair Shop’s Warranty Policy
PC repairs shops have a difficult time maintaining their shop’s warranties. As a matter of fact, there is a very good reason for this. Most shops order their computer parts ahead of time, which starts the vendor’s 30-day warranty. In most cases, there is no method of testing those parts. What if they don’t sell that part for another 60 days and the part is faulty? They can no longer return that part, which is why most shops don’t offer any warranty. If the shop offers a 30-day warranty, then they must give the client a refund and lose that money. At DML Computer Repair we order parts as we need them so that we don’t lose that money and the client gets the full benefit of the vendor’s warranty.
How I Deal with Issues at My Computer Repair Shop
There is a right way to deal with issues and a wrong way. I learned this a long time ago with a PC repair shop. In fact, the ONLY way to deal with issues that arise is with diplomacy. If you’re not dealing with PC repair shop problems with diplomacy, then you are doing something wrong. Furthermore, every single problem you have, whether it be with employees, clients, or vendors, you deal with it through diplomacy. What is diplomacy you ask? Diplomacy is using compromise, not force (in a nutshell) to handle problems. If you aren’t using diplomacy, then you should definitely try it. You get much further in your business.
Competitors and My Computer Repair Shop
Obviously DML Computer Repair has a ton of competitors in the Colorado Springs area. However, many of them perform services that my shop doesn’t perform, which doesn’t really make them my competition. For example, many of them are data recovery companies, phone repair companies, and console repair companies. DML Computer Repair doesn’t perform these services, we never have. In fact, it’s been suggested that I should expand our services, but I have my hands pretty full performing the services we already perform. I don’t see the need to expand currently. In reality, there are only about a dozen PC repair shops that are truly competitors of DML and none of them have our reputation.
How My Computer Repair Shop Helps the Community
When I first opened DML Computer Repair, I really wanted to give back to the community as a thank you for their support. I began a free recycling program, where clients can bring me their old electronics and I will recycle them for free. Of course, the recycle program does cost me money, but I’m happy to pay for it as a courtesy to my clients. Additionally, I started a “hardship program” that helps underprivileged persons pay for computer repairs. In other words, it helps make computer repair affordable for everyone. It’s not much, but I feel like these small programs make a difference in the community. I’m very proud to sponsor them.
