Laptop Screens and DIY Computer Laptop Repair
There are laptop screen repairs that require a certain amount of expertise. However, most of what you need to know about screen replacements can be found on YouTube videos. In fact, many of the older laptops are extremely easy to pull apart. So easy, that you just need to remove a few screws and the laptop screen comes off. Super easy! If you are looking to replace your laptop screen, then be sure to watch videos about your specific model of laptop. As a matter of fact, watching videos of different models of laptops can only confuse and frustrate you. Each screen replacement is completely unique, there are very few screen replacements that are exactly the same. In most cases, you begin by removing the screws in the front of the screen. If there are no screws, then you will likely need to pry the screen off the case. Unfortunately, prying the screen off the case can be very challenging, especially if you don’t want to break the original screen more. All-in-all DIY laptop screen repairs can be extremely easy if you have the proper instructions.
Keyboards and DIY Computer Laptop Repair
Replacing a keyboard can be extremely tricky during a computer laptop repair. In some cases, you only need to replace the keyboard. However, in many modern laptops, the entire top cover (area surrounding the keyboard) also needs to be replaced. This can also include the touchpad area. In most cases, only the keyboard needs to be replaced and this task can be divided into 3 categories. First, unclipping a few clips on the outer rim of the keyboard will cause it to “pop out” and be replaced easily. Be sure that you disconnect the ribbon for the keyboard without yanking on it. Oftentimes, pulling on the cable too hard can break the clip on the motherboard. Second, removing the entire top cover (including mousepad, keyboard, and surrounding areas) will allow you to easily replace the keyboard. Finally, you need to remove the bottom case, motherboard, hard drive, and other components to get to the keyboard. This is by far the most difficult of cases. If your computer requires this last method to replace the keyboard, just hire a computer repair shop near me. In this case, I wouldn’t touch it at the risk of shorting out the motherboard or breaking it. A huge part of computer laptop repair is knowing when you are in way over your head.
Batteries and DIY Computer Laptop Repair
There was a time when batteries were easily replaced. In fact, you didn’t need to have much expertise to replace a laptop battery. It was as easy as replacing the batteries on a flashlight; you would simply remove and replace the battery. Additionally, all batteries were located on the outside of laptops and slid out easily. These days, most batteries are internal batteries. Furthermore, it’s extremely difficult to tell which computers have batteries that are easily replaced. My recommendation? Watch YouTube videos of your model of laptop having a battery replaced. If you feel confident that you can replace the battery based on the video, then do so. But, beware! Sometimes videos look much easier than real life. Feeling a little lost with your battery replacement? Call a local computer repair shop for help with your project.
Hard Drives and DIY Computer Laptop Repair
Many decades ago, there was a laptop that had a removable hard drive on the outside of the computer. Sadly, computers aren’t built this way anymore. These days, laptops must be opened and dissected just to find the hard drive. Yes, you can watch videos about hard drive replacements, but that doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to complete one. My recommendation? Purchase all the materials needed for the hard drive replacement and try to do it yourself. Of course, you will watch videos and try to get a good technique. However, if you get stuck, then find yourself a good computer repair shop that’s going to work with you.
Broken Cosmetic Pieces and DIY Computer Laptop Repair
Breaking a piece on your laptop screen’s frame is extremely frustrating. Who wants to pay $100 to replace a $15 part? Nobody. As previously mentioned, you should watch YouTube videos prior to attempting repairs yourself. Unfortunately, videos don’t always cover every single step of a repair so make sure to watch several different videos for your laptop model. Cosmetic pieces, like the bezel, bottom lid, and top lid are extremely easy to replace. In most cases, even on complicated models, you’ll need very little instruction to replace these pieces. As mentioned previously, if you get stuck, reach out to a local computer repair shop for assistance.
Power Cables and DIY Computer Laptop Repair
Power cable replacements are simple and easy to do. In fact, all you need to do is type the serial number of your charger into Amazon and you’ll find one. Super easy! When should you replace your power cable? You should replace your power cable if your computer is no longer charging. Additionally, if your computer does not power on, you may need to replace your cable. If you jiggle your power cable and it suddenly works or stops working, then you may need to replace it. The only time you would need a computer repair shop is to verify that your charger is the problem. Thankfully, you won’t need to purchase an overpriced charger from them. You can find your own on Amazon!
