Avoid Laptop Screen Repairs

It’s happened again, your laptop screen broke for the umpteenth time.  Why can’t your laptop screen refrain from breaking?  OMG.  Well, here it is, things you can do to avoid those pesky laptop screen repairs.  I’ll delve into the world of laptop screen repairs and the things you can do to avoid them.

How to Avoid Laptop Screen Repairs:  Leaving your Laptop in your Car

Leaving your laptop in your vehicle is NOT always an issue, let’s be perfectly clear about that.  When the weather is a perfect 60 degrees or so, it doesn’t necessarily affect your laptop.  However, if your car is 10 degrees (freezing weather) then your laptop screen could freeze and break with the cold.  In fact, it’s very likely that this will happen during freezing weather.  Furthermore, if the weather is over 75 degrees and you leave your laptop in your vehicle the heat could also destroy your laptop.  Your laptop screen is similar to your phone screen and can be completely destroyed by heat.  Don’t leave your laptop in your car.

How to Avoid Laptop Screen Repairs:  Opening your Laptop from the Corner

When you open your laptop from the corner a few things can happen to break your laptop.  First and foremost, the hinges on that side of the laptop can break.  In turn, the screen on that side of the laptop can actually break from the hinge breaking.  In this case, the hinge breaks through the laptop’s screen and cracks it.  Unfortunately, you’ll end up replacing both the hinge and the laptop screen at that point.  Second, opening your laptop from the corner can cause “wear and tear” at the edge of the screen.  This can cause marks and ghost touches at the edge which can cause you to replace the screen prematurely.  In most cases, you can avoid this by simply opening your laptop from the center, not the edges.

How to Avoid Laptop Screen Repairs:  Putting Drinks on your Laptop

I know you’re asking yourself a very good question right now.  How does putting a drink on my laptop affect the screen?  Unfortunately, there are thousands of people every year who forget the drinks on their laptop and slam the laptop screen down.  The drink pushes into the screen and cracks or breaks it.  In most cases, this completely destroys the screen, and it needs to be replaced with a new one.  I would highly recommend not leaving any drinks on your laptop simply because it’s a huge risk.  Why risk it?  You could join thousands of Americans and easily forget that it’s there and good-bye laptop screen.  Hello laptop screen repairs.

How to Avoid Laptop Screen Repairs:  Leaving your Laptop in the Sun

Leaving your laptop in the sun is similar to leaving it in the car.  The screen of the laptop can heat to dangerous temperatures and boil.  Literally you would be cooking your laptop from the inside out.  In fact, your laptop’s screen isn’t the only thing that would be cooking, the motherboard and hard drive would be toast as well.  I hope you like your laptop “well done”.  As mentioned earlier, this is similar to what happens to phones when you leave them in extreme temperatures.  Unfortunately, laptops don’t have screen temperature warning signs like iPhones.  I really think manufacturers should add a feature to laptop screens that says “screen is getting hot and the laptop needs to shut down”.  I would definitely buy that laptop.

How to Avoid Laptop Screen Repairs:  Giving a Laptop to Children

I have 5 children and yes, I made the mistake of buying each and every one of them a laptop.  Please don’t judge me.  After several broken keyboards, hinges, and laptop screens, I smartly decided that desktops were the way to go.  I should probably mention that each of my kids only owned each laptop for 3 months before completely obliterating it.  Again, this is a judgement-free zone, please don’t judge me.  Now, each of my kids has desktops and they have owned them for 3+ years.  Oh, my wow, I wish somebody had told me that laptops don’t belong in the hands of children.  What was I even thinking?

How to Avoid Laptop Screen Repairs:  Putting your Laptop in the Kitchen

Your kitchen is full of smoke that gets into everything, oil that sticks to everything, water that goes everywhere, food that jumps onto surfaces and who knows what else.  Do you really want to put your laptop in there?  The correct answer is, “no”.  If you must put your laptop in your kitchen, then you should take several precautions with your screen.  First, you should clean it EVERYDAY.  Yes, everyday my friend.  All kinds of gunk is getting on that thing, clean it.  Second, you should avoid putting it too close to the stove/oven to avoid heat damage.  Finally, don’t put your laptop anywhere near the sink, laptops and water don’t mix.  For best results, simply don’t put your laptop in the kitchen.

How to Avoid Laptop Screen Repairs:  Not Cleaning your Laptop Screen

If you’re like me, then you NEVER EVER clean your laptop screen.  This is a terrible idea for several reasons.  First of all, you’re leaving yourself open to ghost touches.  These are invisible touches on your screen that are caused by a dirty screen that makes your screen think that it’s being touched.  It’s super annoying and requires you to clean your screen until it’s squeaky clean.  Second, food that gets splattered onto your screen can actually stain your screen if not removed quickly.  Finally, grease and grime from kitchens can also become impossible to remove if left too long on a screen.  In most cases, it’s prudent to clean your laptop screen at least once a month.  However, if you’re anything like me, once a year should be good enough.  You should know that computer technicians are the worst at cleaning their own computers.

How to Avoid Laptop Screen Repairs:  Eating Around your Laptop

DO NOT EAT FOOD NEAR YOUR LAPTOP.  Food can get on your keyboard and splatter onto your screen.  In fact, it can splatter so badly onto your screen that it will NEVER come out.  For example, beet juice can splatter onto a screen and dry within minutes and become a permanent stain on your screen.  Although I would caution more against the taste of beet juice than the stain itself.  Other examples of food that could become stains are wine, carrot juice, some soups, beers, and other colorful foods.
