About Me
I moved to Colorado Springs about 15 years ago and came here with almost nothing. If I’m being honest, I’d say that I was running away from a bad marriage and then a string of bad relationships. Life was not good. However, this was the best decision I would ever make in my life. Additionally, moving to Colorado Springs proved to be good for my kids, for me and for our future. As I arrived in Colorado Springs, I realized that it was a unique city with its own little culture and amazing people. Over the next 15 years, I would become one of the residents and grow with the community. One of the most important factors that contributed to my growth is the story I would like to share with you today.

When I first called CompUXparts, I was greeted with kindness and respect. In fact, this appeared to be the best shop to do business with. I had chosen well. I asked for directions and found that they weren’t too far from my home, it was certainly doable. Fortunately, I was able to arrive during a less busy time period and got their full attention. Furthermore, the employees were just as nice in person as they had been over the phone. Everything about CompUXparts was completely welcoming. I thought to myself “If I had to choose a place to model a business after, then it would be this one”. This is a thought that I remembered later in life.
Great Pricing, Great Service, and Great Computer Technicians
The technician that I spoke to when I first arrived looked over my computer quickly and concluded that the screen was malfunctioning. As a matter of fact, it would take a couple of days to order the screen and have it installed. I was so happy with the service that I was just thrilled that they could fix it at all. The price was also not terribly bad. As I called around for quotes, CompUXparts didn’t charge as much as every other computer repair shop Colorado Springs. Did this company have any flaws? They had the best computer technicians, friendly service, and fantastic pricing. I don’t think I could have done better, as far as choosing a computer repair shop Colorado Springs. I left the shop extremely satisfied with my choice.

Many years after my first encounter with CompUXparts, a friend approached me about opening a computer repair shop. He knew that I was a wizard with software, and it would complement his strengths with hardware. In 2013 we set out to put together the most perfect little computer shop. First, I thought about my experience with CompUXparts and what a fantastic time I had while doing business with them. Second, I thought about how awesome it would be to provide the same experience to our potential clients. Finally, I put together a list of things that I wanted our PC shop to reflect, some of which were a direct result of my experience with CompUXparts.
Opening a Shop and Training Computer Technicians
Opening a PC repair shop is fairly easy. In fact, you just rent a space and throw some furniture and tools in there and voila, it’s done. However, training technicians to act and react to clients the way that you would like them to, not so easy. Unfortunately, you can build all the business models in the world but that doesn’t mean that your new employees will follow them. In most cases, my partner and I had to help clients and have computer technicians observe. It was a grueling process because some computer technicians simply would not follow our lead. Sadly, these were the computer technicians that wouldn’t stick around. However, for the most part, after a few months most technicians were up to speed with the type of shop we wanted. What I’ve Learned About this Business
The most important thing to remember in this business is that everybody who comes into the shop is likely having a bad day. When they say bad words or raise their voice in frustration, it has nothing to do with the employee. If you can remember that everyone is just human, then this business becomes a lot easier. The second thing I learned is that DML Computer Repair is my second home. Each person that walks through our doors is treated with the same love and respect that you would treat family. It’s not surprising when clients stop by just to talk and tell us about their lives. As a matter of fact, it’s not uncommon for us to be invited to weddings, funerals and baby showers.

As a business owner I am always looking to the future of DML Computer Repair and our community. This is why we have started community recycling programs and a hardship program to help our peers. In fact, the recycling program helps people drop off and recycle items that shouldn’t be thrown away. This includes batteries, old parts, and other electronics. Furthermore, we also have the hardship program which provides computers and little to no cost to those in need. By starting these programs, we wanted to give back to the community that has been so good to us for over 10 years.
